John Swadling (1789 - 1868)

My great great grandfather John Swadling was born in Wantage, Berkshire in 1789 and died in East Hendred, Berkshire in 1868. He married Mary Underwood in Inkpen, near Newbury, in 1825. Their ten children, John, Thomas, William, Mary, Mercy, Henry, Charles, George, Maria and James were all born in Inkpen.

I too am from the Swadling line - my father being one of the last sawyers in his line in the family linked back to his sawyer family William & Elizabeth who left Sedlescombe, Ssx and emigrated to Sydney Aust in 1838 on the James Pattison. The furthest I can go back is Thomas Swadling b 18 Oct 1705 in Bodiam who married Mary Pierce b 18 Feb 1709 Herstmonceux on 7 Apr 1730 in Herstmonceux. I would love to find out more of their life in the Sussex area - how they came to be there etc. Would appreciate any help.
