Visit to the Oxfordshire Records Office

I visited the Oxfordshire Records Office yesterday. While I was there I collected information from several of the Henley registration district parish registers and a couple of the Abingdon ones. Contact me if you have any ancestors in that area.

Frederick Swadling (1892 - 1943)

My Grandfather Frederick Swadling was born in Wednesbury, Staffordshire in 1892. He was the youngest son of James Swadling and Emily Hutchings. He married my grandmother Minnie Edwards in 1916 and they had one daughter and two sons. During the First World War Frederick was in a reserved ocupation as a turner. He died at the age of 51 in 1943.

John Swadling (1789 - 1868)

My great great grandfather John Swadling was born in Wantage, Berkshire in 1789 and died in East Hendred, Berkshire in 1868. He married Mary Underwood in Inkpen, near Newbury, in 1825. Their ten children, John, Thomas, William, Mary, Mercy, Henry, Charles, George, Maria and James were all born in Inkpen.

James Swadling (1851 - 1935)

My great Grandfather James Swadling was the youngest son of John Swadling and Mary Underwood and was born in a little village of Inkpen in Berkshire on the 30th January 1851. He married Emily Hutchings in 1877 at the parish church in East Hendred in Berkshire. After their marriage they moved to Wednesbury in Staffordshire and had six children, Frank Edward, Ada Mary, Kate, George, Frederick and Dora Emily.

Between 1893 and 1901 James moved his family to Birmingham, Warwickshire. He died in 1935 and was buried in the parish church in Erdington, Birmingham.
